The Paper Dolls

Celebrating 50 Years

I am so thrilled to introduce you to this collection of songs, many of them are so special to me.

Something here in my Heart still gives me tingles when I hear the intro- we recorded the song along with a full Orchestra, sharing the session with Long John Baldry.

I can remember the thrill of hearing the first radio play, it was DJ Tony Blackburn on a very new Radio 1.

We were three girls who went to School together Pauline (Spyder) Sue (Copper) and myself trained as dancers, prior to auditioning for Tony McCauley and John McCloud we sang and danced in clubs and theatre’s in Leeds, Peter Stringfellow saw us working one night and he took us to London for the audition. We were working two venues a night but earning very little- we didn’t own a pair of tights between us - so we stopped on the Finchley Road and he bought us some 4 shillings and eleven pence Pretty Polly tights.

The Audition at PYE Gt Cumberland Place was scary as were not used to sound levels, and we nearly deafened them, but they liked us and we were told there and then - we were the chosen new Pop Group.

Branded the first British Girl Group really grabbed the press attention, so the hits might not have been many but the TV’s and Tours were very high profile.

I feel so privileged that I had the opportunity of that bit of stardom in the 60's. My memories maybe a little faded after so many years but I look back on brilliant times, Top of the Pops- Morecambe & Wise TV - Scott Walker Tour - Wembley Poll Concert – The Speakeasy – Scotch & Coke and Carnaby Street, Just a few that come to mind.

Thanks to all the Paper Dolls, Spyder, Copper, Rusty, Kim Linda, Wendy & Janet.

And thanks to you,

Love Tiger Susie
